Local Area Information
There are lots of local attractions. We have our own small Cambuskenneth Abbey site in the village, which is literally around the corner, together with Stirling Castle and The National Wallace Monument. These can be viewed from the end of the street and are within walking distance, or only a short drive away.
A visit to Stirling Castle is a must, with Doune Castle also not far away, where filming of Outlander, Game of Thrones and Monty Python's Holy Grail took place. The Bannockburn Visitor Centre may be the place to visit for an interest in Robert the Bruce. Stirling town centre is charming and historic, known for its Victorian architecture, cobbled streets and vibrant mix of shops, cafes, restaurants and cultural landmarks. The heart of the town features a blend of modern retail stores alongside independent and artisan shops.
The nearby former spa town of Bridge of Allan boasts a wonderful array of independently run boutique stores offering unique quality products for all occasions. The town also has a diverse culinary scene that caters to different tastes.
The University of Stirling is only 1.5 miles from Cambuskenneth which is ideal for work/business or if you are visiting friends or family staying on the Campus. It can be reached easily by car in 5 mins. Alternatively, walking or cycling can be a pleasant option offering scenic views of the River Forth and the surrounding area.
There is a city cycle station situated approximately half a mile away at the end of Causewayhead Road, for public use.
You may also wish to have a drive to the towns of Callander and Aberfoyle, or to Loch Lomond.
Fly or trout fishing days can be arranged on the Lake of Menteith where Inchmahome Priory is also situated, set on the island and reached by a short boat ride.
Many golf courses surround the area, Stirling being the nearest for non-members. Gleneagles is only a 30 minute drive away, with St. Andrews 1hr 30mins.
